“No one tried to get involved with me, and I kept to myself. This was the place where everything was supposed to be safe and easy. How could Evan Mathews unravel my constant universe in just one day?”
In the affluent town of Weslyn, Connecticut, where most people worry about what to be seen in and who to be seen with, Emma Thomas would rather not be seen at all. She’s more concerned with feigning perfection while pulling down her sleeves to conceal the bruises – not wanting anyone to know how far from perfect her life truly is. Without expecting it, she finds love. It challenges her to recognize her own worth – but at the risk of revealing the terrible secret she’s desperate to hide.
Reason to Breathe is an electrifying page turner from start to finish, a unique tale of life-changing love, unspeakable cruelty, and one girl’s fragile grasp of hope.
Emma Thomas is a broken girl who is struggling with her evil, heartless aunt, some days she is thrilled to be alive, other days she struggles to find a reason to breathe.
When emma’s father passed away several years ago it took a toll on her mother, with her mother unable to look after her she has to move in with her uncle and aunt, only her aunt isn’t to happy about it. Emma keeps a low profile, and it works for her but when Evan comes into the picture he changes things.
When Evan Mathews takes an interest in emma he begins to be very observant, emma knew getting close with Evan would threaten the picture perfect image she created, but she couldn’t stop the ever persistent Evan from getting under her skin.
Was her secret worth giving to her first love?
What was she willing to risk to be normal and happy?
Reason to breathe is a heartbreaking story, I was full of mixed emotion’s which ranged from crying to laughing and being happy to sad. My heart was in pieces and my stomach was in knots as I read.
Emma is very selfless and her relationship with Evan was just wonderful. You get a chance to get to know the characters, not just the major but the minors as well.
This story contains violence and abuse but it’s a very inspiring story about a girl dealing with the abuse and how love helps her to keep breathing.
I literally devoured this book in one night, not sure how but I just couldn’t seem to put it down and soon realised I’d have to get the tissue’s.
Rebecca Donovan is a beautiful writer and she made some amazing characters and I fell in love with them.
