Series – The Breathing Series #2
Emma’s struggle with an abusive home life came to a heart pounding conclusion in the final chapters of “Reason to Breathe”. Now everyone in Weslyn knows Emma’s secret, but Carol can’t hurt Emma anymore. Some are still haunted by the horror of that night, and some must face the repercussions of their choices. Fans of Rebecca Donovan’s debut novel will discover there’s still much to learn about Emma’s life.
Barely breathing is just as raw and heartbreaking as reason to breath.
Emma makes a spare of the moment decision to move in with her mother and try and reconnect with her, this decision creates many problems.
An added complication appears in the form of her mother Rachel’s much younger boyfriend Jonathan.
I’m not eternally sure how to write my review for barely breathing, its as good as the first book in the breathing series, I cried , sobbed screamed and cried some more just as I did on the first one, so I’m going to do a brief breakdown on the characters who stole the story.
Emma:
Emma is still emotionally scarred and terrified, she’s scared to reveal her dark thoughts to Evan so she starts to reveal them to Jonathan as they both have a dark past and experienced unspeakable cruelty from there loved ones. Emma is confused about everything in her life , the only thing she is most certain of is that she is in love with Evan and he’s the only one her.
Evan:
Evan is thoughtful, sweet and is a very protective boyfriend, he tries so hard to do the right thing. It’s so hard at times to see his pain over the choices Emma makes, you feel his suffering throughout the book. I fell in love with Evan in the first book and stayed in love with him in the this one.
Jonathon:
I enjoyed Jonathan’s character, although I had hatred for him over his threat to Emma and Evan. I still liked his character and could feel how deeply wounded he was. Burned from an old love and scarred by a horrific past, I really wanted a happily ever after for him, his past is dark, gritty and raw.
After finishing the second book there was nothing stopping me from reading the third. The end of the book gave me shiver, anticipated shivers.
The ending was epic and jaw dropping that I just couldn’t believe it.
The breathing series is one of my top favourite series, its something I could always go back to and read again and again.
